The Complete Guide to Ordering
Custom Built EIDOLON Wedges.
You’ve probably never even given thought to playing custom built wedges, so here’s a guide as to how to select the specifications that will serve you best.
Set Make-Up
Choosing the exact wedges that will optimize your scoring is an important step. For most golfers, loft differences of 4 degrees between wedges produce full-swing distance gaps of 12-15 yards for optimum scoring accuracy. If you are a long hitter, you might consider reducing those gaps to 3*; if you are not as “gifted”, gaps of 5 degrees can serve you well.
A good starting point is to know the loft of your current set-match pitching wedge and/or 9-iron and work from there. Many modern game improvement sets have strengthened their lofts so that your “PW” club is really a re-numbered 9-iron, or even 8! You can find your factory specs by doing a little online research, or visit a golf shop with a quality loft and lie machine and someone who knows how to use it. Knowledge is power when it comes to your irons and wedges.
Custom Lofts
The unique playability of EIDOLON’s patented V-SOLE is that we can “tweak” our lofts to yield the exact loft specifications you need for the full shot distances you are seeking without compromising the versatile playability of our patented V-SOLE. If your ideal set make-up calls for “in-between” lofts (rather than our stock 48*, 52*, 56* and 60*), we prefer to adjust our heads 1 degree strong and up to 2 degrees weaker to deliver that to you. This optimizes the performance of the patented V-SOLE. Doing this, our heads can yield the following target lofts:
48* Pitching Wedge 47-50 degrees
52* Gap Wedge 51-54 degrees
56* Sand Wedge 55-58 degrees
60* Lob Wedge 59-62 degrees
Shaft Selection
This is the first critical component of your scoring tools, and what you are after is a “seamless transition” in feel from your short irons and/or set-match pitching wedge. We offer the premium steel KBS Hi-Rev shaft for golfers who play standard weight steel in your irons (either Dynamic Gold or Rifle models). If your irons are shafted with lightweight steel or graphite, you’ll love the feel of our SCoR graphite shaft. We designed it expressly to give you the feel and performance good wedge play demands. Regardless of which shaft you choose, you’ll get a high-performance match to your V-SOLE head and SCoR grip that will optimize feel and trajectories for all your wedge shots.
Choosing Flex
Again, we suggest you match the shaft flex to that in your irons, an option other wedge brands rarely even offer you. Our “Firm” flex is best for golfers with above average swing speeds, who hit their 9-iron 125 yards or more. Our “Regular” flex is a better choice for golfers with reduced distances, and our “Senior and Ladies” flexes were designed to optimize trajectory and feel for those who are not as strong with their iron shots.
Shaft Length, Lie and Grip Size
If you don’t know the lengths of your irons, you can find most manufacturers’ specifications by doing a little online research. At EIDOLON, we recommend that your first wedge be ¼” shorter than your 9-iron, and that the subsequent wedges in your bag decrease in length 1/4’ from there. Our standards are as follows:
48* Pitching Wedge 35.75"
52* Gap Wedge 35.5”
56* Sand Wedge 35.25”
60* Lob Wedge 35.0”
All EIDOLON wedges feature a 64* standard lie angle, but we can alter that up to 2* upright or flat to match any custom specs you may have. Our SCoR grip fits most golfers’ hands properly, but we can build them up to a larger size if you have extremely large or small hands.
Specifying Your Custom Alterations
The EIDOLON order process allows you to select the shaft and flex you require when you choose your wedges, along with any special alterations to lie angles, length and grip size. If you need us to tweak lofts to "in between" numbers, simply specify your requests in the field for “Other Special Requests” at the bottom of the order form.
